A few words about us
Inspired – a small business born in 2009 from the love of a bygone era and Nostalgia.
Pierre Roode and Sally Pretorius, whilst exploring the “outback” of the Karoo that both had grown to love, came across some old stacked wine crates in an old “waenhuis” on a farm Trekoskraal.
This find of old crates was the inspiration that led to the design and manufacture of practical pieces of furniture. This visit to Trekoskraal also led to the next expedition; ‘In search of the crate’. Criss – crossing the Karoo and the wine lands we accumulated old wine crates and plenty of design ideas.
Our next adventure was to leave the city and find a suitable “home” for Inspired which we found in the little town of Heidelberg at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains in the Western Cape.
Today we practice our craft in an old refurbished milk shed dating back to 1873. Our showroom appropriately called ‘Ïnspired’ is housed in the old “waenhuis” dating back to 1797 on the farm Doornboom.
To the north of our little town, 40 Km through the Tradouw Pass we have Barrydale. 40km to the south, we have Witsand, one of the best whale watching sites as well as the mouth of the Breede River. 50 km to the east, Swellendam and 220 km Cape Town and 30km west is Riversdal, 120km Mosselbay and 220 km Knysna.
