The Story of Trekoskraal is an intrinsic part to the evolution of SOON
The worn key grated in the old master lock on the huge “Waenhuis” doors. We slid them open and peered inside. With just enough light to see the ancient glittering dance of the dust mites, old wooden crates and furniture packed neatly on the flagged floor…
“Ja” said Geelbooi the oldest of the farm workers we had inherited with Trekoskraal. “Dis hier waar Oubaas Tewis geslaaf het”. “We turned to him, a relic of a bygone era full of natural dignity and sly humor, “Hoe so?” I asked.
“Hoe meen jy Geelbooi?” I asked.
“Hoekom?” I enquired.
I queried.
“Nee dis nog die res van die kiste wat Oubaas nog nie op gewerk het nie, saam met ‘n klomp kaste en tafels wat hy gemaak het, vir die “just in case” dat die oumies se plan draai,” he added with a wry smile.
And so: Standing in that old waenhuis brought about an overwhelming desire to recreate the legacy of a bygone era of Oom Tewis and Tannie Betta’s practical designs and art of creating “Something Out of Nothing”
Dankie Oom Tewis en Tannie Betta for your bygone ideas which has been the inspiration which brought about the conception of….Something Out of Nothing
